The First Inaugural Bridge Over Troublesome Creek was a beautiful day in Bankhead National Forest with a ton of great folks adventuring together. We had a great turnout of 23 from Birmingham, Huntsville and Tennessee and maybe some other places I missed. The weather was great aside from some pesky 16mph wind gusts in the open second half. This is my favorite route, and lots of folks had great things to say about it today. Bankhead is just a special place.
There were a few stretches with fresh laid gravel chunk here and there, but overall the roads were smooth and fast. One of my favorite parts of this ride is getting 90% of the climbing out of the way in the first half. It’s pretty smooth sailing from there until the last long climb near the end.
The Bridge gave us a new adventure today. There is a new hole in the center where two rail road ties are missing. Since you can’t run the runner boards for the wide gaps, it’s either bunny hop, walk, or get a flat like Merrill did. It wasn’t there when I drove the course last week.
What a great day in the woods with amazing friends from all over. Thanks for showing up for such a great adventure.
