Today was the perfect sunny spring day for a gravel crew of 14 to ride the Peach West Relocated Chicken routes. I believe we had 1 do the XL route with a few deviations for 82mi, 4 on the long 63, 1 on the medium 46 and 8 on the short 35. We all rode together as a group pretty much for the first 18mi to the cooler stash at Isabella HS, which gets visited a second time on the XL and long courses. That alcove provides some shade and made a pretty good rest stop.
The wind was giving us 20mph gusts and while it was all supposed to be heading North, it kept from giving up a tailwind all day.
We didn’t get to see our black heifer cross the road today, but I am pretty sure I made eye contact with him hanging out with his mom on the correct side of the fence. He gave me that look, like he’s gotten in trouble for running with us when we ride by.
It was great getting to meet several folks, great to have Steve Miller, I made band jokes, who just moved here from Oklahoma, and this was his first AL gravel ride. Dying to hear what he thinks of our dirt roads. Great to see several folks who have been wanting to get out. Thanks everybody for coming and watch for my posts on Alabama Cycling Calendar for the next one. I’m probably gonna map out some new to me Perry county dirt tomorrow, so I might have a new route down there soon.
