10/26/24 Shake and Brake

Today I went to race a race that I cracked my helmet in last year, Chainbuster Racing’s Shake and Brake in Piedmont. I always check with Jason and Dawn to make sure they have things covered before kitting up. There was a need and fortunately I got to both ride and help out by sweeping the long course.

It was very rewarding riding with several lantern rouges, helping fix bikes and encouraging folks to keep at it. I got to ride with many folks that had no idea what they were in for with this race. We haven’t had real rain in about three weeks, and it was loose and chunky.

I got to let it loose for a bit once I left rest stop one where the short and long course split. I hammered the next eighteen miles before I caught up to the long course lantern at mile 33. I got to ride with a lot of great folks today. Once the last one tapped out before climbing Duggar on the return, I got a PR on that climb. My only other two attempts were six minutes longer.

I had a great time today and loved having the opportunity to chat it up with so many folks. Thank you to the Chainbuster Family that makes it happen, and everyone for showing up.
