May the Fourth Chilton Co Ride – Isabella Oakmulgee 68 mi route
Today we did the first tour of the Isabella Oakmulgee 72 mi gravel route in Chilton county. Six brave souls got a good workout on a super wide variety of surface types and tons of great climbs and descents. I anticipated it to be unbearably hot by the end at 84 degrees and 60% humidity, but the majority of this route has tall trees all along the sides of the road which provided great shade cool breezes in the tree tunnels. This is a go to route for days when it’s too hot.
We noted a couple of re-routes needed, and the miles grew a bit but all of the routes have been updated on the routes page here, https://alabamacyclingcalendar.com/routes/
The best update is only on the 72 mile route. We had a good store stop at mile 41. After we got back on the road for one mile, we crossed a bridge and I saw folks swimming in Mulberry creek. It has a good sandy beach and looks like a great spot for a picnic and a swim. The store stop should be to pick up snacks and drinks and enjoy them with bare feet in the creek.
