Today was another beautiful Saturday for some Clanton gravel. 8 of us met up at Peach Park and rolled this route for the first time in a few years. At the start I noticed that my helmet’s retention system was trashed, and it was super loose. Thankfully Casey brought a spare that I was able to borrow.
The weather was just like last weekend in Bankhead, about 60 at the start and ending high 70s with 19mph wind gusts here and there. Today’s route had a few spots where the wind was a pain, but mostly it was inconsequential cross wind.
The roads have gone another week without rain and were somewhat beachy, with plenty of exposed loose rocks and sand. The first half of the day had some nice hard clay roads, but after noon it was all bone dry and sucking tires.
We stopped at Big Springs Baptist at miles 20 and 40, and Evergreen Baptist at 30 for water and snacks in the shade. We ended up with no physical, mechanical or emotional breakdowns.
After the ride 5 of us stopped by Peach Park to validate parking by gorging on peach or blackberry cobbler smothered in vanilla ice cream or not. We also got to enjoy the same musician on the patio from after our ride out here a couple weeks ago.
Thanks everybody for showing up, what a great group.
