Routes Update

I have been updating a lot of the routes to make them all meet a common standard and will continue to do so until all of them adhere to the following: All surface type is marked correctly in ride with gps, All points of interest, water stops, etc are converted to rwgps highlights, more below, Updated description, and Pictures included from the last adventure.

If you think you get notified each time I make changes, you don’t. I have the option to notify people, and when I am doing ‘routine maintenance’ I am not going to pester your inbox. Best bet is to re-download each route next time you want to use it.

Ride with GPS recently introduced Highlights to it mapping features. Highlights are just like Points of Interest, which I have been using to mark water stops and others POIs. The good thing about highlights is that once they are made, they can be seen by anyone, as long as you are looking at the RWGPS layer and turn highlights on.

I have been going through all of the routes and changing the POIs to highlights, and deleting the POIs. Each time I make sure that the highlight is included in the queues for the route so that even if you don’t have them turned on, the route will take you to them.

So far I have finished most of the Chilton to Autauga and Oakmulgee. I will clean up the Bankhead routes after that.

Routes Update

I have started updating the shared routes to make them more uniform and useful. The first and most important change is based on the new Ride with GPS Highlights feature. This allows me to take any existing POI I have on one of my routes and make it a highlight. RWGPS reviews it, and makes it a highlight, and then everyone can see the highlight/POI when they are looking at the RWGPS layer. I am starting to see the highlights on the routes now. Eventually all of the shared routes will be updated with highlights for POIs.

The next change is based on being able to edit surface type. Traditionally I had made my routes yellow where they were unpaved. Now I am making the routes all red, and editing the surface type to be correct based on my experience and mapping. The reporting of percent of unpaved will be exact.
